Pilot Community Driven RWH Project

Pilot Project at the Hobli level

Currently, 2000 villages in Karnataka are facing acute drinking water issues. For this severe water issue, the target has been set up by WLF for sustainable drinking water & livelihood. It is estimated that this mission will be accomplished in 5 years. In this regard, we are promoting Community driven Rainwater Harvesting projects at the Hobli level. WLF has planned to implement Pilot Projects to ensure Water Security to villages. A good start has been made and we are looking for financial support from CSR funds or in-kind support from industries, philanthropies, social entrepreneurs, and individual donors. This generous support is essential to make our villages self-sufficient in domestic and agricultural water needs.

In this regard, WLF intends to carry out water developmental works at the village called Muddaiahnapalya, Kasaba Hobli, Madhugiri (Tq), Tumakuru District of Karnataka - 572132

as a part of CSR 2018-19 initiatives. The areas were chosen based on a survey carried out at Muddaiahnapalya village. People are struggling for drinking water. They have to get it at a price of Rs.1/liter from 10km away. The village is chosen on the basis of having 130 houses, 750 population, and 150 acres land, 80 acres spread lake.

Replication

Once it rains considerably, the systems implemented by WLF catch and hold water runoff as per the design and fill water bodies efficiently, and this fulfill the needs for agricultural purposes and drinking water. This self-sufficiency will spread greenery and prosperity in the village. In addition, we will be hosting “Rain Water Festival” inviting sponsors, nearby villages, media, and public. This program will be televised. This will give sponsors immense recognition, inspire neighboring villages and help to carry it forward on a large scale. The trained local water warrior group will take care of the implementation. In this holistic approach, WLF supports those interested villages, makes them water literate by capacity building and exposure visits but implementation is done by the community & supervised by trained water warriors of the village. They will be financially aided by CSR funds. This will be followed by third-party inspection.

Expected Outcome

  • Swift replenishment of groundwater.
  • Restoration of the natural hydrological balance to a feasible degree.
  • Community empowerment economically, socially, environmentally and involvement through Water Literacy.
  • Village will become water self-sufficient.
  • Inherently resulting in an ideal model for relevant communities.
  • The lake capacity shall be increased.
